🎓 Lesson 2: Signing up with a Bookmaker

🎯 Objectives

By the end of this lesson, you will:

  • Know how to correctly sign up with a bookmaker and complete the registration process.
  • Have created and funded your own bookmaker account so you’re ready to start practising what you’ll learn.

🧠 Introduction

Now that you’ve set aside a bankroll and you’re ready to start betting, the next step is signing up with a bookmaker. We’ll go deeper into how bookmakers work later in the course, but for now your goal is simply to create an account so you can practise what you’re learning.

📝 Signing up with a Bookmaker

I’ll use a bookmaker called Stake (note that Stake here is the name of a bookmaker, not the “stake” you learned about in the last lesson) to demonstrate, because it’s simple and I’ve personally used it for years. However, you’re free to choose any bookmaker you like, the basic principles are the same. Just search for the most popular bookmaker (sometimes called a sportsbook) around you. It should not be hard to find.

🧭 Steps to Sign Up with Stake

  1. Go to 🔗 stake.com on your desktop.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Register.
  3. Select your preferred language in the popup.
  4. Enter the required information.
  5. (Optional) Enter the referral code: DATA.
  6. Read the terms and conditions carefully and tick the checkbox.
  7. Click Create Account.
  8. Check your email for confirmation once the account is created.
  9. Log in, go to Account Settings, and select Verification.
  10. Complete the identity verification process.

🚨 You can use the account without full verification at first, but it’s strongly recommended to complete it as soon as possible.

💡 Tip

If you use a different bookmaker, the screens may look different but the important steps remain:

  • ✅ Enter correct personal information (name, email).
  • 🔒 Secure your password.
  • 📜 Read the terms and conditions, this will save you a lot of trouble later.
  • 🪪 Verify your identity early. Bookmakers sometimes hold withdrawals until this is done.

💳 Funding Your Account

Once your account is created, it’s time to fund it. Your bookmaker account is useless without money in it, and this is where the bankroll you set aside earlier comes into play.

🚨 But note: You should not deposit all of your bankroll into one bookmaker.
In fact, for now just deposit an amount enough for 1 bet (1% of your bankroll).

Most bookmakers provide a clear Deposit button and multiple ways to fund your account

  • Local payment gateways
  • Bank cards
  • Cryptocurrency.

🪙 If you already have crypto:

  1. On the home page, click Wallet → Deposit.
  2. Select the crypto network.
  3. Copy the deposit address (or scan the QR code).
  4. Send the amount from your wallet.
  5. After a few confirmations, your account will be funded.

💵 If you don’t have crypto:

Stake lets you buy crypto directly:

  1. On the home page click Wallet → Buy Crypto.
  2. Choose USDT (a stablecoin similar to USD; good for beginners).
  3. Enter the amount and click Buy.
  4. Select a payment provider (e.g. MoonPay) and follow the instructions.

Alternatively, depending on your country, you can buy crypto from an exchange like Binance or Coinbase, then transfer it to your Stake account using the steps above. When you finish these steps, you’ll have a funded bookmaker account ready to use.

🚀 Call to Action

Take a moment now to create and fund your own account with Stake or another bookmaker of your choice.
This will let you practise every other concept you’ll learn in the course.

🔁 Recap

  • You’ve seen the importance of entering correct information, reading the terms and conditions, and verifying your identity early.
  • You’ve also learned how to fund your account with your bankroll using crypto or other payment methods.
