Asian Handicap Strategy: When to Cash Out a -1.5 Bet
Open it in OddsFantasy to load its entry preset, exit preset and schedule in one step, or download the file and upload it in Auto entries → Run or schedule a preset.
Every betting site offers the favourite with a handicap of a goal and a half, and most people treat it as a ninety-minute bet. But the favourite's first goal does half the job, and the price jumps the moment it goes in. This asian handicap strategy buys the favourite at -1.5 before kickoff, sells it 15 cents above break-even when the first goal lifts the price, and sells through a 50% stop-loss when the goal doesn't come. This guide explains the handicap from zero, walks through two real Polymarket matches, and shows how to run it as a preset in OddsFantasy.
A handicap gives a team a head start in goals before the match. The favourite is the team expected to win, and the underdog is the other one. -1.5 on the favourite takes a goal and a half off its score, so it pays only if the favourite wins by two goals or more. A one-goal win, a draw and a defeat all lose. With half a goal in the line there's no draw result, which is what makes it an asian handicap.
On Polymarket the market is called "Spread: Team (-1.5)". A winning share pays $1 once the market is settled and a losing one pays nothing, so the price works like a chance: 39¢ is odds of about 2.6. In OddsFantasy you'll find it under the Handicap market. See the guide to betting odds.
At normal prices it's a fair one. Across 1,934 Polymarket matches from August to October 2026 with the favourite's -1.5 at odds 1.8 to 3.5 (55.6¢ to 28.6¢) ten minutes before kickoff, it cost 38.6¢ on average and won 38.6% of the time. In 25.5% of those matches the favourite won by exactly one goal: it won the match, and the handicap still paid nothing.
Held to the end, it's a fair bet and nothing more. What makes it worth trading is how far the first goal moves it.
The first goal lifts it by about 19¢ straight away. After that, the clock works against it: a 1-0 lead is worth less every minute the second goal doesn't come, and a goalless match drains it fast.
On 20 October 2026 Fenerbahçe played Slavia Prague in the Champions League. Real Polymarket trades on Fenerbahçe -1.5:
On 25 October 2026 Inter played Fiorentina at home in Serie A. Inter -1.5 cost about 48¢. The first half was goalless and it slid to 30¢ by the break; ten minutes into the second half it passed the stop-loss, near 24¢, and the stop sold. Fiorentina scored at 64', and Inter won 2-1 with a goal in stoppage time. One goal of margin, so the handicap paid nothing, and the stop had kept about half of what the shares cost.
OddsFantasy keys handicap lines from the home team: line -1.5 is the home team at -1.5 (and the away team at +1.5), and line 1.5 is the home team at +1.5 (and the away team at -1.5). That's why the preset has two rows, and the odds window keeps only the favourite's side.
Download the strategy file on this page, then Run or schedule a preset → Upload strategy file. It saves both presets and lands on Confirm, and the exit monitor starts with the schedule. Click Start schedule.
The prices are fair, so the matches you tick are your edge. What a trader looks for:
What to skip: favourites that sit back on a one-goal lead.
Holding the two-goal lead. At Fenerbahçe the handicap was worth 81¢ at 2-0, and nothing at 2-2. One reply takes the margin back to a single goal.
Thinking a win is enough. A quarter of these favourites won by exactly one. Inter needed a stoppage-time goal just to win by one, and -1.5 still paid nothing.
Ticking every match. Fair prices mean your edge is in the choice.
Part of the handicap presets series: the favourite and the underdog at -1.5/+1.5 and -2.5/+2.5. See the handicap +1.5 strategy (the underdog's cushion), the handicap -2.5 strategy (sell the goal rush) and the handicap betting strategy (+2.5 against a giant).
Prediction markets carry real risk: a share can go to zero. Only stake what you can afford to lose, you must be 18 or over, and check that Polymarket is available where you live.
That the team must win by two goals or more. A one-goal win, a draw or a defeat all lose the bet.
They're the two sides of the same line. The favourite at -1.5 wins if it wins by two or more; the underdog at +1.5 wins in every other case: an underdog win, a draw, or a one-goal defeat.
On Polymarket from August to October 2026, with the favourite's -1.5 at odds 1.8 to 3.5 before kickoff, it won 38.6 times in 100 at an average price of 38.6¢: a fair price.
Because the first goal does half the job and lifts the price by about 19¢ at once, while one reply from the underdog, at any minute, can take it back to a single goal of margin.
