Polymarket Auto Sell: Close a Position at Any Time You Choose

Polymarket lets you choose the price you sell at. It doesn't let you choose when. A time order in the OddsFantasy trading terminal does: you pick an exact date and time, and your position sells itself then, at the best price buyers are paying, even if your laptop is closed.

Can you sell a Polymarket position automatically?

On Polymarket itself, only by price. A limit order sells when the market reaches your price, and its expiry only cancels the order: when the expiry passes, the order leaves the book and your position stays where it was. Nothing on Polymarket sells your shares at a time you choose.

OddsFantasy adds that. A time order is a sell order with a clock on it.

How does a time order work?

  • You choose the time and the size. Any date and time, down to the second, and any number of shares from 1 up to your whole position. The time defaults to 10 seconds before the event starts.
  • It's signed when you set it. The sell orders are signed in your browser at that moment, so the order runs while you're offline.
  • At that time, it sells at the best bid. It sells at the best price buyers are paying, above or below what you paid.
  • If it can't sell, it lapses. A time order stays live for 5 minutes after its time. If there are no buyers in that window, it expires.

Every time order is listed under Orders → Time, where you can change its time or cancel it before it runs.

When is a time order useful?

  • Getting out before kickoff. A pre-match trade (a price you expect to move before the start) shouldn't be held into the match by accident. The default, 10 seconds before the start, closes it on time.
  • Selling when you can't be at your screen. A market that moves on news at a known time, a match in the middle of your night, or a trade you only want to hold for a set number of hours.
  • Locking in a plan. Decide when you're out at the moment you buy, not when the price is moving.

How to set a time order

  1. Open the trading terminal and go to Positions.
  2. Click Close on the position.
  3. Choose Time. The execution time is set to 10 seconds before the start; change it if you want another time.
  4. Enter the shares to sell (all of them, or part).
  5. Click Schedule close. The position gets a clock badge.
  6. Check it any time under Orders → Time, where you can change the time or cancel it.

Time close for every position: auto exits

A time order closes one position. To close every position from a strategy at a set time, use an exit preset: open Positions → Auto exits, create a preset, and switch on Time close on the Pre-match step (a set time before kickoff) or the Live step (a set time after kickoff). The Polymarket stop-loss guide and the live trading guide cover the other exits.

Trade responsibly

Only stake what you can afford, and check that Polymarket is available where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Does Polymarket have time-based orders?

Polymarket orders can expire at a time, but expiry only cancels the order. Selling a position at a time you choose needs a time order in OddsFantasy.

Does a time order work if I close my laptop?

Yes. The sell orders are signed when you set it, and OddsFantasy runs it at the time you chose.

What price does a time order sell at?

The best price buyers are paying at that time, which can be above or below what you paid.

What happens if nobody is buying at that time?

The time order stays live for 5 minutes after its time, then expires. Your position stays open.

Can I change or cancel a time order?

Yes, under Orders → Time, any time before it runs.
