Late in a match, betting that one team keeps a clean sheet looks like the safest bet on the board, and it does win about four times in five. So why do so many people lose money on it? It's rarely the bet; it's the stake, and the one late goal in five. This clean sheet betting strategy buys Both Teams to Score No during the match, at odds between 1.11 and 1.25, and holds it to the final whistle with a small, fixed stake. This guide explains the bet from zero, walks through two real Polymarket matches, and shows how to run it as a preset in OddsFantasy.
A clean sheet means a team doesn't concede. Bookmakers sell it per team ("Arsenal to keep a clean sheet"). Both teams to score (BTTS) No is the wider version: it pays if either team keeps a clean sheet, in regular time, including a 0-0.
On Polymarket, BTTS is one market with a Yes and a No. A winning share pays $1 once the market is settled and a losing one pays nothing, so the price works like a chance: 81¢ is odds of about 1.23. See the guide to betting odds. Trading in play means buying while the match is on.
Before kickoff BTTS No usually costs about 45¢. Every minute a team keeps its clean sheet makes it more likely to last, so the price climbs:
In a goalless match it reaches 80¢ around the hour. With one team scored, the other still needs a goal, and it gets there with about ten minutes left.
It's a fair one. Across 2,388 Polymarket matches from August to October 2026 where BTTS No reached odds 1.11-1.25 (80-90¢) in play before both teams had scored, it cost 81.2¢ on average and won 81.2% of the time. 45% of those entries were goalless matches (median minute 56), 55% had one team scored (median minute 82).
The money is lopsided: about +19¢ a share when it wins, −81¢ when it loses. One loss takes the profit from about four wins.
On 9 September 2026 Napoli played Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League. Real Polymarket trades on BTTS No:
On 20 September 2026 Atlético Madrid played Real Madrid in La Liga. Atlético scored at 52' and 58'; with ten minutes left, BTTS No reached 81¢ and the preset bought. It was 90¢ at 88'. Real Madrid scored at 89', it fell to 10¢, and then nothing. That one goal cost as much as four wins like Napoli.
There's no stop-loss on purpose: when the other team scores, BTTS No goes from 80-90¢ to nothing in one move, so there's nothing in between to sell into. Once Polymarket settles the market, usually an hour or two after the final whistle, the exit monitor redeems the winning shares automatically, as long as it's still running.

The prices are fair, so the matches you tick are your edge. What a trader looks for:
What to skip: matches where the losing team throws everyone forward, because that's where late goals come from.
A big stake because it wins so often. At Atlético v Real Madrid one late goal took the profit from four matches like Napoli.
Buying it even later. At 95¢ a win makes 5¢ and one loss costs as much as 19 wins; that's why the window stops at 90¢.
Ticking every match. Fair prices mean your edge is in the choice.
Part of the both teams to score presets series: Yes and No, before and after kickoff. See the BTTS strategy (Yes before kickoff), the BTTS No strategy (No before kickoff) and the BTTS Yes in-play strategy.
Prediction markets carry real risk: a share can go to zero. Only stake what you can afford to lose, you must be 18 or over, and check that Polymarket is available where you live.
That a team doesn't concede. BTTS No pays when at least one of the two teams keeps a clean sheet, including a 0-0.
On Polymarket from August to October 2026, BTTS No bought in play at 80-90¢ won 81.2 times in 100, at an average price of 81.2¢.
It wins often, but it isn't safe: a win makes about 19¢ a share and a loss costs about 81¢. Keep the stake small and the same every time.
Because the goal that ends it takes the price from 80-90¢ to nothing in one move. There's nothing in between for a stop to sell into.
