Under 2.5 Goals Trading Strategy: Automate It on Polymarket

The Under 2.5 goals trade is one of the oldest football trading strategies. Betfair traders have used it for years: back the Under before kickoff, let the clock run, and close the position once some time has passed without a goal. This guide explains why it works, what it costs when a goal goes in, and how to run it automatically on Polymarket with OddsFantasy, either by building it yourself or by loading the ready-made strategy file.
On Polymarket, most football matches have an Under 2.5 goals market for regular time. One share pays $1 if the match ends with two goals or fewer, and nothing if there are three or more.
That makes the share price the market's estimate of a low-scoring game. A price of 52¢ means roughly a 52% chance, which is decimal odds of about 1.92.
Three goals take time. Every minute that passes without a goal leaves less time for them to happen, so the Under price climbs as the clock runs. Traders call this time decay.
In a typical example, Under 2.5 costs about 52¢ at kickoff. After ten goalless minutes it is worth about 59¢. Buy $5 worth before kickoff, sell at the ten-minute mark, and the $5 becomes about $5.67, a gain of around 13%.
These prices are an illustrative example from a simple goals model, not a forecast.
When a goal goes in, the Under price drops in one jump: in the same example, from about 52¢ to about 30¢. A stop-loss sells straight away instead of hoping for a recovery, but because the price gaps, that trade still loses around 40% of the stake. (More on this in how a Polymarket stop-loss actually fills.)
So a goal costs more than a quiet start earns. Across all matches, roughly three in four have no goal in the first ten minutes, and with these numbers the average match is close to break-even. The edge comes from match selection: tight, low-scoring leagues and cagey games where both teams start carefully.
The strategy has three parts: an entry preset (what to buy), a schedule (when the bot is watching) and an exit preset (when to sell).
The odds window skips matches where the market expects lots of goals (high Under odds) and matches where there is very little left to gain (very low Under odds). The spread and volume filters keep you in active markets that are cheap to enter and exit.
The strategy file holds the entry preset, the exit preset and the schedule in one download.
This is not guaranteed profit. Goals happen, prices jump, and some days every trade loses. Use money you can afford to lose, keep the stake small while you learn, and check that Polymarket is available where you live.
As a match goes on without goals, fewer minutes remain for goals to be scored, so the probability of a low-scoring result, and the Under price, rises.
Holding to full time turns a short time-decay trade into a bet on the result. Selling at 10 minutes keeps each trade short and the exposure to goals limited.
No. It triggers once the price is 25% below your entry, but a goal moves the price in one jump, so the sale can happen well below that level.
Yes. After loading the file, edit the presets in Auto entries and Auto exits, for example a smaller stake or a different exit time.
