Over 5.5 goals is the long shot of the goal lines: it needs six goals or more, costs about 8¢ on Polymarket in an open match, and wins about one match in twelve. Held to the end it's a lottery ticket. But one early goal can double its price in a moment, and that jump is something you can trade. This over 5.5 goals strategy buys Over 5.5 before kickoff, sells six cents above break-even after early goals, and sells through a 60% stop-loss on a quiet start. This guide explains the line from zero, walks through two real Polymarket matches, and shows how to run it as a preset in OddsFantasy.
A total goals market is a bet on how many goals both teams score together, in regular time. Over 5.5 needs six goals or more: 4-2, 5-1 and 3-3 win, and five goals, even a 3-2 thriller, lose. A winning share pays $1 once the market is settled; 8¢ is odds of about 12. See the guide to betting odds.
Across 3,010 Polymarket matches from August to October 2026 where Over 5.5 cost 5-12.5¢ before kickoff, it cost 8¢ on average and won 8.2% of the time: a fair price. Held to the end, 92 bets in 100 pay nothing, so keep your stake small. Watch the spread too: on an 8¢ share, a 1¢ spread is an eighth of the price.
A goal doubles it. But after two goals it still needs four more, and the clock is already pulling it down again.
On 8 September 2026 Club Brugge played Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League. Real Polymarket trades on Over 5.5:
On 20 September 2026 Deportivo played Real Betis in LaLiga. Over 5.5 cost about 6¢, was under 5¢ after ten minutes and barely traded after that. Before the half-hour it had fallen 60% and the stop-loss sold at about 2¢. It ended 1-1.

Look for two attacking teams with weak defences, or a strong side at home against a team that leaves gaps. Skip tight matches: without an early goal this trade goes nowhere. Skip small leagues where nobody trades the 5.5 line.
Holding for six goals. At Brugge the shares were worth 74¢ after five goals and nothing at the whistle.
Ignoring the spread. On an 8¢ share a 2¢ spread is a quarter of the price before the match starts.
Ticking every match. Fair prices mean your edge is in the choice.

Prediction markets carry real risk: a share can go to zero. Only stake what you can afford to lose, you must be 18 or over, and check that Polymarket is available where you live.
Six goals or more in the match, counting both teams, in regular time.
In open Polymarket matches from August to October 2026, about 8 times in 100, at an average price of 8¢.
Held to the end it's a fair-priced long shot that pays about one match in twelve. Traded on the jump after early goals, it's a short trade with a clear exit.
Because the price is only a few cents: a one-cent gap is already about 12% of an 8¢ share.
